Guided Kayak Tours on Sydney Harbour

There is nothing quite like the first time you paddle out onto Sydney Harbour. Launching from Quibaree Park in Lavender Bay, the water opens up in front of you, the Opera House sits to your left, and the arch of the Harbour Bridge rises overhead. Our guided kayak tours on Sydney Harbour take you closer to these landmarks than any cruise or clifftop walk ever could.

We run tours at sunrise, during the day, and at sunset, with a seasonal VIVID tour during the festival and private sessions available year-round. Whatever time you choose, the experience is built around you.

  • 5.0 stars on Google from 350+ verified reviews and rated Excellent by Trustindex.
  • Small groups of 1 to 5 guests. Every session is personal and relaxed, not rushed.
  • All equipment included. Kayak, paddle, and life jacket provided. Just arrive and enjoy.
  • Sunrise, daytime, sunset, and VIVID departures available.
  • Book with confidence. If we cancel due to weather, you will receive a full refund or a free reschedule. See our full weather and cancellation policy for details.

You Do Not Need Any Experience

Before you get on the water, your guide runs a clear, practical safety briefing. You will cover paddling technique, harbour conditions, and what to expect once you launch. It is thorough without feeling overwhelming. By the time you set off, you will feel comfortable, prepared, and ready to enjoy the session.

Once you are out on the harbour, your guide keeps a close eye on the group, adjusts the pace where needed, and offers encouragement along the way. That thoughtful, attentive approach is one of the things guests mention most often in their reviews, and it makes the whole experience feel easy, relaxed, and well looked after.

Choose Your Guided Kayak Tour

We offer four different tours, each shaped by its own light, pace, and atmosphere. Whether you choose sunrise, daytime, sunset, or VIVID, every guided kayak puts you on the water in front of Sydney’s most iconic landmarks, with a different kind of harbour experience each time.

SUNRISE TOUR

Before the ferries start moving and the crowds arrive, the sunrise tour gives you a quieter way to experience Sydney Harbour. You’ll paddle out before first light, giving you the full sunrise experience from the dark, still water through to the first glow of morning and the city slowly coming to life around you.

As the light changes, your guide works with the conditions and the group’s pace. It is less about rushing between landmarks and more about enjoying a calm, memorable sunrise on Sydney Harbour.

DAYTIME TOUR

This is Sydney Harbour with the day fully underway. You paddle past Luna Park and along the Lavender Bay foreshore, taking in the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, and the movement of the city from a perspective that feels completely different on the water.

Your guide helps bring the harbour to life as you go, pointing out the details, stories, and viewpoints that are easy to miss from land. It is a relaxed, engaging way to experience Sydney’s most recognisable sights while still feeling connected to the harbour itself.

SUNSET TOUR

As the afternoon moves toward evening, the sunset tour gives the harbour a slower, more relaxed feel. You have time to settle into the paddle, take in the changing light, and enjoy Sydney from the water as the day winds down.

As dusk sets in, each kayak is fitted with lights for the return paddle to Lavender Bay, adding to the atmosphere without making the tour feel overdone. It is a memorable experience for couples, special occasions, or anyone who wants to see the harbour at a more golden time of day.

VIVID SYDNEY KAYAK TOUR

During VIVID Sydney, the Opera House sails glow with moving projections, the Harbour Bridge lights up against the night sky, and the festival reflections ripple across the dark water around your kayak.

Most people watch from the crowded foreshore. This tour puts you out on the harbour itself, lit kayaks and all. Available for a limited window across late May and June each year.

What Our Guests Say

Had an awesome time with Izaac. We were lucky to be the only ones and had a lot of time to take pictures and look for the best view! Izaac was a great guide and we had lots of laughs. Definitely recommend the tour. Cheers and thanks Izaac

Isaacs Sydney Harbour Kayak Tour was awesome. We were lucky to have a small group tour (just Isaac and 2 of us). The water was calm, the views of Luna Park, Harbour Bridge and the Opera House were unreal and we even saw a sea urchin and held a moon jelly fish along the way.

Before You Book

Tours launch from Quibaree Park in Lavender Bay, on Sydney’s lower north shore. The meeting point is easy to reach by train, bus, or car, and your booking confirmation includes full arrival instructions so you know exactly where to go.

Each session runs for 2 hours, including the safety briefing. Tours are open to participants aged 18 and over, with a maximum weight limit of 110 kg per kayak. Bookings are made online through FareHarbor.

You do not need to bring much, but it is worth dressing for the water. Wear clothes you do not mind getting wet, such as shorts, leggings, gym clothes, a rash vest, or a swimsuit, along with sandals or water shoes. Sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, and a bottle of water are also worth packing, especially for daytime sessions.
